bote auxiliar, esquife; embarcación pequeña llevada o remolcada por un navío mayor
Este término náutico designa el bote auxiliar o esquife, la pequeña embarcación que los navíos de mayor tamaño llevaban a bordo o remolcaban para diversos usos. En el griego clásico se aplicaba a botes ligeros, embarcaciones de carga e incluso cunas infantiles, por la semejanza de forma. Lucas lo emplea exclusivamente en Hechos 27 durante el relato del naufragio de Pablo, para referirse al bote salvavidas que los marineros intentaron usar para escapar del barco.
