Siloam; pool in Jerusalem where Jesus sent the blind man to wash
Siloam was a pool in Jerusalem, fed by the Gihon spring through Hezekiah's tunnel. The name means 'sent' in Hebrew. It appears in Luke as the site of a tragic accident and in John as the place where Jesus sent the blind man to wash and receive sight. The location carries both historical and theological significance.

Senses
1. sense 1 Identifies the pool of Siloam in Jerusalem. Luke 13:4 refers to a tragedy: 'those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them.' John 9:7 records Jesus' instruction to the blind man: 'Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is translated Sent).' John 9:11 repeats the account: 'he said to me, Go to Siloam and wash.' The consistent cross-linguistic identification shows this is a specific, theologically loaded location. John's parenthetical translation ('Sent') connects the pool's name to Jesus being sent by the Father—the man born blind receives sight at a place whose very name proclaims Jesus' mission.
