Samuel (Hebrew: 'heard by God'); prophet and judge who anointed Israel's first kings
Samuel is the Greek form of the Hebrew name meaning 'heard by God' or 'name of God.' He was the last judge of Israel and the prophet who anointed both Saul and David as kings. The New Testament references him as a key prophetic figure who spoke of the Messianic age and exemplified faith.
