Mendigo; persona que pide limosna o vive de la mendicidad
Este sustantivo identifica a un mendigo, es decir, alguien que pide limosna y vive solicitando ayuda de otros. En el uso clasico abarcaba tanto el acto de mendigar como la persona que mendiga. En el Nuevo Testamento aparece exclusivamente en los Evangelios para describir a personas que buscan ayuda, siendo el ejemplo mas notable el mendigo ciego Bartimeo. El termino subraya tanto la ocupacion de la persona como su condicion social de dependencia.

1. Persona que mendiga — Identifica a personas que viven de la mendicidad. Marcos 10:46 presenta a Bartimeo, un mendigo ciego, hijo de Timeo. Juan 9:8 se refiere dos veces al hombre nacido ciego: los vecinos preguntaban si no era aquel que se sentaba a mendigar. El texto griego contiene tanto un sustantivo como un participio, ambos enfatizando su condicion de mendigo. 3×
