V-PPM-NMP  |  1× en 1 sentido
to provoke, to challenge, to call forth for competition or confrontation
Originally used of calling someone out to fight or issuing a challenge to compete, this verb carried aggressive overtones. Classical texts used it for challenging to battle, to drinking contests, or to intellectual competition. Paul warns against this attitude in Galatians 5:26: don't provoke one another, don't issue challenges that spark rivalry and conflict. In a community that should be marked by Spirit-produced love, challenging others to prove themselves or compete breeds the discord that destroys unity.

Sentidos
1. sense 1 Cross-linguistic evidence preserves the provocative sense ('provoking,' 'provocando,' 'herausfordern'). Paul identifies this challenging spirit as incompatible with life in the Spirit. Where the flesh operates, believers issue challenges and provoke one another to competition; where the Spirit leads, mutual service replaces rivalry. The middle voice suggests a self-interested challenging, seeking to prove superiority rather than build up the body.
