N-NFS  |  6× in 1 sense
Preparation; in the NT exclusively the day before the Sabbath or a Jewish festival, i.e., Friday.
Paraskeue literally means 'preparation,' but every New Testament occurrence has crystallized into a technical calendar term: the day before the Sabbath or a major feast, when all cooking, burial arrangements, and other work had to be finished before sunset. All four Gospels use it in the Passion narrative — Matthew 27:62, Mark 15:42, Luke 23:54, John 19:14, 31 — anchoring the crucifixion chronology. The German 'Ruesttag' (literally 'equipping-day') captures this sense beautifully, as does the uniform Spanish 'Preparacion.'

Senses
1. Preparation (day before Sabbath/feast) The day of preparation before the Sabbath or a major Jewish festival, specifically Friday, when all necessary work and food preparation had to be completed before sunset. The multilingual glosses — English 'Preparation,' Spanish 'Preparacion,' French 'Preparation,' German 'Ruesttag' — all treat it as a proper technical term. Every NT occurrence (Matt 27:62; Mark 15:42; Luke 23:54; John 19:14, 31) falls within the Passion narrative, making this word a crucial chronological marker for the events of Jesus' death and burial.
