Νῶε G3575
N-NMS  |  8× in 1 sense
Noah, the righteous patriarch who built the ark and survived the great flood; a key figure of faith and divine judgment.
The indeclinable proper name Noe (from Hebrew noach, meaning 'rest' or 'comfort') appears eight times across the NT, always pointing to the patriarch of the flood narrative. Jesus cites Noah's days as a paradigm for the unexpected arrival of the Son of Man (Matt 24:37-38, Luke 17:26-27). The author of Hebrews holds Noah up as a model of faith who acted on divine warning (Heb 11:7), while Peter calls him a 'preacher of righteousness' and uses the ark as a type of baptismal salvation (1 Pet 3:20, 2 Pet 2:5).

Senses
1. of Nōe The proper name of the patriarch who, warned by God of the coming flood, built the ark and preserved his family. In Jesus' teaching, Noah's generation exemplifies unsuspecting normalcy before sudden judgment (Matt 24:37-38, Luke 17:26-27). Hebrews 11:7 presents Noah as a hero of faith who acted on what was not yet seen. Peter draws on the flood narrative both as an example of God's patience and judgment (2 Pet 2:5) and as a typological foreshadowing of baptism (1 Pet 3:20). Luke 3:36 includes Noah in the genealogy of Jesus.
