1. south, south wind — The cardinal direction south or the wind blowing from the south, often used interchangeably in NT Greek since the wind was named for its origin. Used for the Queen of the South (Matt 12:42, Luke 11:31), geographic directions (Rev 21:13, Luke 13:29), and meteorological south wind (Luke 12:55, Acts 27:13, 28:13). The two clusters differ only in case: S72834 covers genitive and accusative, S72836 covers genitive with a genitive construction ('of the south'). Translations are uniform: Spanish 'sur/del sur', Hindi दक्षिण throughout, Arabic جنوب in both, Korean 남쪽/남풍, Swahili 'kusini/wa kusini'. Purely inflectional variation; one sense covering both wind and direction. 7×
