Naphtali, son of Jacob, tribe of Israel, and the tribal territory
Naphtali (Hebrew נַפְתָּלִי) was the sixth son of Jacob, born to Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant. His descendants formed one of the twelve tribes of Israel, with territory in northern Galilee. Matthew quotes Isaiah, identifying Jesus' ministry region as 'the land of Naphtali' (Matt 4:13, 15). Revelation lists Naphtali among the sealed tribes (Rev 7:6). The name means 'my wrestling,' recalling Rachel's struggle. Consistent transliteration across languages—'Nephthalím,' 'Nephthali'—preserves the Hebrew original.
