No longer, no more, no further -- a negative temporal adverb indicating cessation of a previous state or action
A compound adverb formed from me ('not') and eti ('still, yet'), expressing the cessation of something that was previously the case. Jesus cursed the fig tree with 'may no one ever eat fruit from you again' (Mark 11:14), and the leper's healing ironically meant Jesus could 'no longer openly enter a town' (Mark 1:45). Paul uses it in ethical exhortation: believers should 'no longer walk as the Gentiles do' (Eph 4:17) and should 'no longer be children tossed by every wind of doctrine' (Eph 4:14). Spanish ya no, French ne plus, and German nicht mehr all faithfully render the temporal-negation structure.
