1. to divide, be divided — To split into parts or be in a state of internal division and disunity, used for kingdoms, households, and communities torn apart by conflict. In Matt 12:25-26 Jesus warns that every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and if Satan has been divided he cannot stand (arb inqasam, heb נֶחְלַק/מְחֻלֶּקֶת, hin baṇṭā huā, kor bunyelldoen, spa se dividió/dividido). Mark 3:24-26 parallels this with kingdoms and houses divided. In 1 Cor 1:13 Paul asks rhetorically whether Christ has been divided (arb hal inqasam, kor nanwieotnnya, spa ha sido dividido), and 1 Cor 7:34 notes the married person's attention is divided. French uses diviser/partager, German teilen. Hebrew נֶחֱלַק (to be divided) is consistent across passive occurrences. 8×

2. to apportion, distribute — To divide and distribute shares or portions, used for the active allocation of resources, gifts, or territory by a person in authority. In Mark 6:41 Jesus divided the loaves among the crowd (arb qassama, heb חִלֵּק, kor nanueosdda, spa repartió). In Rom 12:3 God has apportioned to each a measure of faith (arb qasam, hin bāṇṭā hai, kor nanueo jushyeossda, spa repartió). 1 Cor 7:17 says each should live as the Lord has apportioned (fra partager). In 2 Cor 10:13 Paul speaks of the territory God apportioned to him (spa asignó). Heb 7:2 records Abraham apportioning a tenth of the spoils to Melchizedek. Luke 12:13 uses the middle voice for requesting someone to divide an inheritance (heb leḥallēq, kor nanudorok, spa que reparta). The active distribution sense is confirmed by Arabic قَسَّمَ/قَسَمَ (to divide/distribute), contrasting with the passive انقَسَمَ (to be split) in the division sense. 6×
