To find fault, blame, or criticize. Paul uses it in Romans 9:19 to pose an objector's question: If God's will is sovereign, who can resist? Then why does he still find fault? The question challenges divine sovereignty and human responsibility. Hebrews 8:8 says God found fault with the old covenant, necessitating a new one. Classical Greek used it for blaming people, censuring things, or casting faults in someone's teeth. The middle voice (as here) often carries the sense of ongoing or habitual faultfinding.
