Lot; Abraham's nephew who settled in Sodom and was rescued before its destruction.
Lot (Hebrew lot, 'covering' or 'veil') is Abraham's nephew whose story in Genesis serves as a cautionary archetype in the NT. Jesus cites the days of Lot as a parallel to the days of the Son of Man: people were eating, drinking, buying, and selling right up until fire fell from heaven (Luke 17:28-29). The warning 'Remember Lot's wife' (Luke 17:32) became proverbial for the danger of looking back. Peter calls Lot 'righteous' and presents his rescue from Sodom as proof that God knows how to deliver the godly from trial (2 Pet 2:7).
