Crispus was the ruler of the synagogue in Corinth who, along with his whole household, believed in the Lord (Acts 18:8). Paul personally baptized him (1 Cor 1:14), which Paul mentions when arguing against divisions in the Corinthian church—he's grateful he baptized only a few, lest anyone say they were baptized in Paul's name. Crispus's conversion was significant because of his position as synagogue leader; his faith would have been a public testimony and possibly sparked opposition. The name is Latin (meaning 'curly-haired') and was common in the Roman world.
