Κλεόπας G2810
Cleopas, one of two disciples on the Emmaus road (personal name)
This is the personal name of one of the two disciples Jesus met on the road to Emmaus after his resurrection. Luke 24:18 names Cleopas as the one who responds to Jesus's question about their discussion. The transliterations preserve the Greek form (Kleopas, Kleopâs, Cléopas, Κλεοπᾶς). His companion remains unnamed. Cleopas becomes witness to one of the most moving resurrection appearances, where Jesus unfolds Scripture before revealing his identity.
Senses
1. sense 1 — One of the two disciples whom the risen Jesus joined on the Emmaus road, teaching them from Scripture before revealing himself in the breaking of bread. Though we know little else about Cleopas, his encounter embodies the transformative recognition of Christ that changes despair into burning-hearted witness. 1×
