Fruto, producto o cosecha; usado literalmente de cultivos y figuradamente de resultados morales y espirituales.
El sustantivo καρπός ('fruto') opera en dos registros en el Nuevo Testamento. Literalmente designa el producto agrícola: higos, uvas, grano, el rendimiento de la tierra y del árbol (Mt 21:19; Mr 4:7-8; Lc 13:6-9; Stg 5:7, 18; Ap 22:2 con sus doce clases de fruto). Figuradamente, es una de las metáforas éticas más importantes del NT: Juan el Bautista exige 'frutos dignos de arrepentimiento' (Mt 3:8), Jesús advierte que por sus frutos los conoceréis (Mt 7:16-20), y Pablo despliega el 'fruto del Espíritu' como amor, gozo, paz y más (Gá 5:22).
