Este sustantivo se refiere al tallo o paja del grano, especialmente lo que queda despues de la cosecha: el rastrojo. En 1 Corintios 3:12, aparece en la metafora paulina de edificar sobre el fundamento de Cristo: algunos construyen con 'oro, plata, piedras preciosas', otros con 'madera, heno, paja (καλάμην)'. El rastrojo representa material sin valor y combustible que no puede resistir el fuego. Pablo advierte que la obra de cada constructor sera probada, y lo edificado con materiales perecederos como la paja sera consumido. Solo lo que sobreviva al fuego recibira recompensa.
Sentidos
1. Material combustible — Pablo usa καλάμη como el material de construccion mas inutil imaginable: rastrojo seco que se enciende al instante. El espanol 'paja' transmite bien la idea. La metafora advierte a los ministros que no toda obra realizada sobre el fundamento de Cristo tiene el mismo valor. La ensenanza que solo entretiene o halaga, el ministerio que busca aprobacion humana en lugar de transformacion espiritual, sera consumido como paja en el dia del juicio. 1×
