κᾰκοποι-έω G2554
To do evil, to do wrong, to act harmfully; contrasted with doing good in moral discourse.
Expresses the act of doing evil or causing harm, and consistently appears in the New Testament as the moral opposite of doing good. In the Synoptic accounts of a Sabbath healing, Jesus poses the piercing question: 'Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil?' (Mark 3:4; Luke 6:9). The Spanish hacer mal and German Böses tun both render the phrase as 'to do evil,' highlighting the concrete moral action rather than abstract wickedness. In 3 John 1:11, the reader is exhorted not to imitate evil but good.
