Ἰωρείμ G2497
Jorim, an ancestor of Jesus in Luke's genealogy
Jorim appears in Luke 3:29 as one link in the chain from Jesus back to Adam. The name is otherwise unattested in Scripture, and we know nothing of this individual beyond his place in the genealogy. Such names populate Luke's list, reminding readers that behind the famous biblical figures stood countless ordinary believers whose faithfulness mattered. God's promises advanced through both the celebrated (David, Abraham) and the obscure (Jorim, Rhesa, Joanan).
Senses
1. sense 1 — Luke includes Jorim among the post-exilic ancestors, names that appear nowhere else in biblical or extra-biblical sources. The consistency across languages (French Jorim, Spanish Iōrím) reflects simple transliteration. These unknown names have theological weight: they testify that messianic lineage flowed through real people across centuries, that God's patience in working out redemption involved generations whose only memorial is their inclusion in the genealogy of the One who would save the world. 1×
