El sustantivo ἰσχύς (ischus) designa la fuerza, el poder o la potencia inherentes: la capacidad de actuar con vigor. Aparece de manera central en el mandamiento derivado del Shemá de amar a Dios 'con todas tus fuerzas' (Mc 12:30, 33; Lc 10:27), haciendo eco de Deuteronomio 6:5 LXX. Pablo lo invoca para referirse al 'poder de la fuerza' de Dios (Ef 1:19; 6:10; 2 Ts 1:9), y las doxologías celestiales atribuyen 'poder' al Cordero (Ap 5:12; 7:12). Pedro exhorta a servir 'con la fuerza que Dios provee' (1 P 4:11).
