N-GMS  |  1× in 1 sense
Issachar, the ninth son of Jacob and ancestor of one of the twelve tribes of Israel
Issachar was the ninth son of Jacob, born to Leah through her maidservant. His name, derived from the Hebrew meaning 'there is recompense,' became the designation for one of Israel's twelve tribes. In Revelation 7:7, representatives from the tribe of Issachar are numbered among the 144,000 sealed servants, standing as one witness to God's covenant faithfulness across all the tribes.

Senses
1. sense 1 This proper name appears in John's vision of the sealed servants from Israel's tribes. The multilingual glosses preserve the Hebrew phonetic form across European languages (Spanish Issachár, French/German Issachar), maintaining the tribal identity even in translation. Revelation 7:7 lists Issachar fifth in the apocalyptic census, between Gad and Zebulun.
