Jason; a man in Thessalonica who hosted Paul and his companions, and possibly Paul's kinsman in Rom 16:21.
Jason is a Greek name borne by a believer in Thessalonica who gave hospitality to Paul and Silas during their missionary visit. When a mob attacked his house, Jason was dragged before the city authorities and accused of harboring men who 'act contrary to the decrees of Caesar' (Acts 17:5-9). He posted bond and was released. A Jason also appears among Paul's greetings in Rom 16:21 as a 'kinsman,' possibly the same individual. The name, familiar from Greek mythology's hero Jason, was commonly adopted by Hellenistic Jews as a substitute for Joshua or Jesus.
