Amable, indulgente, bondadoso; describe una disposición justa y razonable que no insiste en derechos estrictos.
Denota una cualidad de carácter que es amable, paciente y dispuesta a ceder en lugar de exigir justicia estricta. El concepto griego contrasta deliberadamente con el legalismo rígido: una persona ἐπιεικής ejerce una razonabilidad llena de gracia. Pablo insta a los creyentes en Filipos a que su amabilidad sea conocida por todos (Fil 4:5), y aparece como rasgo requerido para los obispos (1 Tim 3:3) y como marca de la sabiduría celestial (Stg 3:17). El español 'amable' y 'gentil' captan la calidez de este término, aunque ninguno transmite plenamente el matiz de renunciar a los propios derechos legítimos en favor de la paz.
