Despise, treat with contempt — to regard someone or something as utterly worthless, rejecting them with scorn
The verb ἐξουθενέω (exoutheneō) conveys a thorough despising — treating someone as a nothing, beneath all consideration. Jesus warns against those who 'despised others' while trusting in their own righteousness (Luke 18:9), and Herod 'treated Jesus with contempt' at the trial (Luke 23:11).
