V-PIA-3S  |  6× in 1 sense
To be in; there is/are (often as an emphatic existential marker: 'there is neither... nor').
A contracted form of 'enesti' (it is within/present), this verb in NT usage functions primarily as an emphatic existential marker. Paul deploys it most memorably in Galatians 3:28 -- 'there is neither Jew nor Greek, neither slave nor free, neither male nor female' -- where the triple 'eni' hammers home the dissolution of social categories in Christ. The same existential sense appears in Colossians 3:11 and 1 Corinthians 6:5. Spanish 'hay' (there is) and French 'il y a' reflect the existential function cleanly.

Senses
1. sense 1 An emphatic existential form meaning 'there is' or 'there exists,' used to affirm or deny the presence or existence of something within a given sphere. In its most celebrated deployment, Paul uses the contracted form 'eni' three times in Galatians 3:28 to declare that fundamental human distinctions no longer exist 'in Christ Jesus.' The same construction recurs in Colossians 3:11 (where there is no Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised) and 1 Corinthians 6:5 ('Is there not among you one wise person?'). Spanish 'hay' and French 'il y a' capture the existential function, though the emphatic rhetorical force is uniquely Pauline.
