ἔνδοξ-ος G1741
Adj-DNP  |  4× in 1 sense
glorious, splendid, honored; held in high esteem or notable in appearance
Derived from δόξα ('glory'), this adjective describes persons or things that possess or reflect honor, splendor, or distinction. In Luke 7:25, it characterizes the fine clothing of those in royal courts. Luke 13:17 reports that the crowd rejoiced at all the 'glorious things' Jesus was doing. Paul uses it ironically in 1 Corinthians 4:10—'you are honored, we are dishonored.' Ephesians 5:27 presents the church as Christ's bride: 'glorious, without spot or wrinkle.'

Senses
1. sense 1 Glorious, splendid, or held in high honor—describing persons of distinction or things of notable quality. The root in δόξα ('glory, reputation') grounds every use. Luke 7:25 applies it to splendid garments; Luke 13:17 to Jesus' remarkable deeds; Eph 5:27 to the church's eschatological perfection. Paul's use in 1 Cor 4:10 is bitterly ironic: 'you are ἔνδοξοι, but we are dishonored.' Spanish 'gloriosa/honrados' and French 'glorieux/magnifique' split the honor-splendor range helpfully.
