Proveniente de la raíz griega para hábito, este verbo aparece casi exclusivamente en su forma perfecta (εἴωθα), que funciona como un presente: 'es costumbre' o 'solía'. El Nuevo Testamento lo usa para describir prácticas arraigadas: la costumbre de Pilato de liberar a un preso en la Pascua (Mt 27:15), la asistencia habitual de Jesús a la sinagoga en sábado (Lc 4:16) y el patrón regular de Pablo de razonar a partir de las Escrituras (Hch 17:2).
