La forma femenina δούλη corresponde a δοῦλος y designa a una mujer en servidumbre. En el Nuevo Testamento aparece de manera notable en contextos de autodesignación religiosa: María se llama a sí misma 'sierva del Señor' (Lucas 1:38, 48), y Pedro cita la profecía de Joel sobre el derramamiento del Espíritu de Dios sobre las 'siervas' (Hechos 2:18). Aunque el término clásico podía referirse a la esclavitud como propiedad, el uso bíblico lo eleva para expresar sumisión voluntaria al servicio de Dios.
