2. proven character, tested quality — The quality of character that emerges through endurance of trials, tested and approved moral fiber. Rom 5:4 presents the progression: tribulation produces endurance, endurance produces dokime (proven character), and proven character produces hope. Phil 2:22 speaks of Timothy's dokime, his demonstrated reliability in gospel service.
