El sustantivo διάνοια se refiere a la mente como sede del entendimiento, el pensamiento y la intención moral. Su aparición más prominente es en el Gran Mandamiento: 'Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, alma y mente' (Mt 22:37; Mr 12:30; Lc 10:27), donde traduce el hebreo lēbāb y enfatiza la dimensión intelectual del amor del pacto.
