Escriba, experto en la Ley mosaica y la tradicion judia; tambien secretario o funcionario municipal
En el Nuevo Testamento, el γραμματεύς es casi siempre un escriba judio: un erudito profesional formado en la copia, interpretacion y ensenanza de la Tora. Estos escribas aparecen regularmente junto a fariseos y sumos sacerdotes como el estamento religioso que cuestiona, pone a prueba y finalmente se opone a Jesus. Preguntan por que come con pecadores (Mc 2:16), desafian su autoridad (Mc 11:27-28) y participan en su juicio y condena. En un pasaje excepcional, la misma palabra designa al secretario municipal de Efeso que apaciguo el motin provocado por Demetrio el platero (Hch 19:35), reflejando el sentido griego mas amplio de 'secretario' o 'registrador.'
