Ser suficiente o bastar; en voz media, estar contento o satisfecho con lo que se tiene.
Verbo que en voz activa significa 'ser suficiente' y en voz media/pasiva pasa a significar 'estar contento, estar satisfecho.' Cuando Felipe dice que doscientos denarios de pan no 'bastarian' (Jn 6:7), y cuando Jesus le dice a Felipe que ver al Padre le 'bastaria' (Jn 14:8), el enfoque recae en la suficiencia objetiva. Pero cuando Juan el Bautista dice a los soldados que se 'contenten' con su paga (Lc 3:14), y cuando el autor de Hebreos exhorta a contentarse con lo que se tiene (He 13:5), el enfoque se desplaza hacia una disposicion interior del corazon. El encuentro de Pablo con la gracia divina une ambos sentidos: 'Te basta mi gracia' (2 Co 12:9), objetivamente suficiente y a la vez llamado a descansar satisfecho en ella.
