This adjective means unworthy or not deserving of something. In 1 Corinthians 6:2, Paul asks rhetorically if believers are unworthy to judge trivial cases, given they will judge the world. The Spanish indignos and French indigne both capture the sense of being unfit or inadequate for a task. Paul's question is ironic: if you're competent for the greater responsibility (judging the world), how can you be incompetent for the lesser (settling disputes among yourselves)?
