Senses
1. recline (intransitive) To recline at table, especially for a meal; used in the passive voice to describe guests taking their places at a banquet. In Matt 8:11 the redeemed 'will recline' (ἀνακλιθήσονται) with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; similarly Luke 13:29. In Matt 14:19 the crowds are commanded 'to recline' (ἀνακλιθῆναι) on the grass before the feeding of the five thousand. Multilingual glosses consistently render as 'sit/recline' (arb يَتَّكِئونَ, heb יֵשְׁבוּ, hin बैठेंगे, spa se-reclinarán).

2. cause to recline / lay down (transitive) To make someone recline or to lay someone down; the active/causative use of the verb. In Luke 2:7 Mary 'laid' (ἀνέκλινεν) the infant Jesus in a manger (arb أَضْجَعَتْهُ, heb הִשְׁכִּיבָה–אוֹתוֹ, hin लिटाया, spa lo-acostó). In Luke 12:37 the master 'will make them recline' (ἀνακλινεῖ) and serve them. In Mark 6:39 Jesus orders the disciples 'to make [the crowd] recline' (ἀνακλῖναι) for the feeding miracle.
