(1883) 333; Jerem, Life and Times (1888) 161 RSJQ Jan. 1882, 289 ff.)—חֲגוֹר for sword 2 S 20:8 (yet read prob. חָגוּר, Th We Klo Dr), cf. 1 S 18:4; article of commerce Pr 31:24 (coll.? or of a richly adorned girdle?).

ὑποζώννῡμι (infinitive ὑποζωνύναι in Refs and ὑποζωννύω Refs 2nd c.BC+, undergird, τοὺς ἵππους ῥυτῆρσι Refs 1st c.AD+; ὁ ὑπεζωκὼς τὰς πλευράς (i.e. ὑμήν), or absolutely ὁ ὑπεζωκώς, the pleura, Refs 2nd c.AD+ is expressed in Refs 2nd c.AD+; ὑπεζωκότες foetal membranes, Refs 2nd c.AD+; lining of the intestines, Refs 4th c.AD+ —passive, especially in perfect participle, ζειρὰς ὑπεζωμένοι (variant {-ζωσμ-}) girt with ζειραί (which see), Refs 5th c.BC+ (οι) girt up, Refs 5th c.BC+ —especially, __II brace a ship, so as to make her seaworthy NT+2nd c.BC+ __III ὑπεζῶσθαι· τὸ εἰς ἄνδρας ἐλθεῖν, Φιλητᾶς, Refs 5th c.AD+ (probably = come to man's estate).

† זַרְזִיר adj. girded, girt (cf. BaNB 206)—only cstr. Pr 30:31 זַרְזִיר מָתְנַיִם אוֹ־תָ֑יִשׁ that which is girt in the loins, etc., named with lion, he-goat, and king, as stately in motion. Perhaps = gray-hound Ew Bö De al., or war-horse Bo Ges Hi al.; Vrss. cock, Talm. raven, v. De Now (NH זַרְזִיר starling (war-horse only in interpr. of Pr 30:31), Aramaic ܙܰܪܙܺܝܪܳܐ; Lexx. also ܙܰܪܙܽܘܪܳܐ starling, in Arabic زُرْزُورٌ, perhaps loan-wd. Others der. from a √ זרר, v. supr.)
