Teresh; Persian eunuch who conspired against King Ahasuerus
One of two palace chamberlains who plotted to assassinate King Ahasuerus, foiled by Mordecai's vigilance (Esther 2:21; 6:2). The name appears to be Old Iranian, perhaps related to 'tarsha' meaning 'desire.' He and his co-conspirator Bigthan (or Bigthana) guarded the king's threshold, making their betrayal especially heinous. The Septuagint renders the name as Tharas or Tharras, showing typical Greek adaptation of Persian names. Their execution and Mordecai's unrewarded service set up the later reversal of fortunes in Esther's narrative.

Sentidos
1. sense 1 As a character in the Esther narrative, Teresh functions as catalyst: his failed conspiracy establishes Mordecai's loyalty and creates the sleepless night when the king discovers Mordecai was never rewarded—the pivot point of the entire book. The Persian name confirms the story's authentic Persian-period setting, with court officials bearing Iranian rather than Semitic names. That both conspirators were eunuchs with palace access heightens the danger and Mordecai's heroism in exposing them. The name pairs consistently with Bigthan across both references.
