Samaria (שֹׁמְרוֹן) — ciudad capital del reino del norte de Israel; también la región circundante
שֹׁמְרוֹן (Samaria) designa tanto la ciudad fortificada en lo alto de la colina que el rey Omri compró y edificó como capital del reino del norte (1 R 16:24) como, por extensión, el territorio circundante. La ciudad sirvió de centro político y religioso de Israel durante toda la monarquía dividida, destacándose en los relatos de Elías y Eliseo y en los oráculos proféticos de juicio. Ezequiel la personifica como mujer junto a Jerusalén (Ez 16:46; 23:4). La conquista asiria de Samaria en 722 a. C. marcó el fin del reino del norte.
