Shemeber was king of Zeboiim, one of the five cities of the plain that rebelled against Chedorlaomer's twelve-year dominion. His name appears in Genesis 14 during Abraham's era, when four eastern kings invaded Canaan to suppress the rebellion of five kings including Shemeber. After the eastern coalition defeated the five kings in the Valley of Siddim, they captured Lot, prompting Abraham's dramatic rescue mission. Zeboiim, like Sodom and Gomorrah, was later destroyed for wickedness. The name Shemeber possibly means 'name of the mighty' or 'name has winged,' though etymology remains uncertain.
