Sokho (also Sochoh, Socoh), a town name in Judah occurring in both the Shephelah and the hill country.
A proper feminine noun naming at least two towns in the territory of Judah, both called Sokho (with variant spellings Sochoh, Socoh, Sokhoh). The better-known Shephelah site is where the Philistines encamped before David's famous encounter with Goliath (1 Sam 17:1), and it later appears as one of Rehoboam's fortified cities (2 Chr 11:7) and among towns captured by the Philistines (2 Chr 28:18). A second Sokho sits in Judah's hill country near Hebron (Josh 15:48; 1 Chr 4:18). The modern identification is Khirbet esh-Shuweikeh. Multilingual glosses uniformly transliterate the name with minor variation.
