Campo, terreno abierto; forma poética de שָׂדֶה que designa tierra cultivada, terreno silvestre o tierra en sentido amplio. Es una forma rara, arcaica y exclusivamente poética del sustantivo común שָׂדֶה ('campo'). Aparece en contextos elevados: el cántico de Moisés celebra la miel de la roca y el aceite del campo pedregoso (Dt 32:13), los salmistas alaban todo lo que el campo contiene (Sal 96:12), y los profetas la usan para tierra cultivada (Os 10:4) y campo abierto donde vagan las bestias salvajes (Is 56:9; Sal 50:11; 80:14; 104:11). El francés a veces la confunde con שַׁדַּי ('Todopoderoso') por tener consonantes idénticas, pero el español campo y el alemán Feld identifican correctamente el sentido agrícola y geográfico. Jeremías 4:17 la emplea memorablemente: 'como guardas de un campo la rodean.'
