height (Aramaic; of structures and visionary trees)
An Aramaic noun for physical height, used in Daniel and Ezra for imposing vertical dimensions. Ezra 6:3 specifies the rebuilt temple's height at sixty cubits. Daniel 3:1 records Nebuchadnezzar's golden image at sixty cubits tall. The remaining three occurrences (Dan 4:10, 11, 20) describe the great tree in Nebuchadnezzar's dream whose height reached to heaven, symbolizing the king's towering but vulnerable dominion. The word consistently evokes awe at structures that aspire upward.
Senses
1. sense 1 — The measurable vertical extent of imposing structures or visionary objects. French 'hauteur' and Spanish 'altura' render it directly. The temple decree (Ezra 6:3) and the golden image (Dan 3:1) use it for literal architectural measurement, while the dream-tree passages (Dan 4:10, 11, 20) extend it symbolically: height reaching heaven represents overreaching royal ambition. The possessive suffix ('its height') appears in every occurrence, always referring to something monumental. 5×
