make bald (mourning rite)

Senses
1. make bald (mourning rite) To make bald or shave the head as an act of mourning or lamentation for the dead, a widespread ancient Near Eastern mourning rite. Encompasses all stems (Qal, Hiphil, Hofal, Niphal) with the shared semantic core of creating baldness. Arabic صَلِعَ/يَحْلِقُوا (to become bald/to shave), Korean 대머리를 밀다 (to shave bald), Spanish rasurar/hacer calvicie, Hindi गंजा करना (to make bald). Attested in Lev 21:5 (priestly prohibition), Jer 16:6 (Niphal, mourning custom), Ezek 27:31 (Hiphil, mariners mourning Tyre), Ezek 29:18 (Hofal passive, made bald by labor), and Mic 1:16 (imperative, Zion told to shave in grief over exiled children). The Hofal participle in Ezek 29:18 describes physical baldness from wearing helmets during siege, while all other occurrences relate to deliberate ritual shaving.
