1. sling (weapon for hurling stones) — The noun qela refers to a sling, the ancient weapon used to hurl stones, most famously associated with David's defeat of Goliath (1 Samuel 17). All four clusters represent the same military implement with purely grammatical variation: absolute singular (qela 'sling/a sling'), definite and prepositional (ha-qela 'the sling,' ba-qela 'with the sling'), possessive suffix (qal'o 'his sling'), and plural (qela'im 'slings'). Multilingual evidence is uniform: Arabic miqlaa' (المقلاع 'the sling'), Spanish honda (sling), Korean mulma-e (물매 'sling'), Swahili kombeo (sling), Hindi gophan (गोफन 'sling'). Whether singular or plural, definite or indefinite, possessive or absolute, the referent is the same handheld projectile weapon throughout. 6×
