1. to be lightly esteemed, dishonored (Niphal) To be lightly esteemed, be held in contempt, be dishonored (Niphal passive). Used of social status reversal where the despised person rises against the honored (Isa 3:5 'the base against the honorable'), of one who is despised yet self-sufficient being better off than one who boasts (Prov 12:9), of degradation through corporal punishment (Deut 25:3), and of predicted future dishonor (Isa 16:14).
