Wall; a structural wall of a building, house, or temple; occasionally a city fortification wall.
The standard Hebrew word for a wall as a built structure, most often referring to the interior or exterior walls of houses, the temple, or other buildings. In the vast majority of its 74 occurrences, qir denotes a building wall — whether the walls inspected for plague marks (Lev 14:37), the temple walls adorned with carvings (1 Kgs 6:27), or the wall against which blood is dashed in sacrifice (Lev 1:15). A small handful of uses describe fortification walls, overlapping with the more common chomah. German distinguishes 'Wand' (interior wall) from 'Mauer' (stone wall), helpfully mirroring this division.
Senses
1. wall (building/interior) — A structural wall belonging to a building, house, or temple — the dominant sense covering nearly all occurrences. Whether sprinkled with sacrificial blood (Lev 1:15; 5:9), inspected for mold (Lev 14:37, 39), or forming the inner partitions of Solomon's temple, qir is the everyday word for a built wall. German 'Wand' (interior wall) and French 'mur' both confirm this architectural, non-military usage. 70×

2. wall (city/fortification) — A city wall or fortification barrier, where qir overlaps with the more common chomah. Attested in just four passages (Num 35:4; Isa 22:5; 25:4; 59:10), these contexts involve defensive structures and siege imagery. The multilingual evidence reflects the shift: Arabic 'sur' (city wall), Korean 'seongbyeok' (fortress wall), and Spanish 'muro' (masonry wall) replace the lighter 'pared' (room wall), marking a genuine semantic distinction. 4×
