Sarepta era una ciudad costera fenicia al sur de Sidón donde Elías encontró refugio durante la sequía. Primera de Reyes 17:9-10 describe cómo Dios dirigió a Elías a ir a Sarepta, donde una viuda lo sostendría, lo que llevó a los milagros del aceite interminable y la resurrección del hijo de la viuda. Abdías 20 profetiza que los exiliados de Israel poseerán territorio fenicio 'hasta Sarepta'. El sitio se identifica con el moderno Sarafand en Líbano. La ciudad se convirtió en emblemática del cuidado de Dios que se extiende más allá de las fronteras de Israel, como Jesús recordó más tarde en Lucas 4:26.
