Zela, a town in Benjamin, burial place of Saul and his family
Zela was a town in the tribal territory of Benjamin, significant as the burial place of Kish, Saul, and Jonathan. After recovering the bones of Saul and Jonathan from Jabesh-gilead (where they had been rescued from Philistine mockery), David had them buried in Zela in Kish's tomb, giving Israel's first royal family honorable rest in their ancestral inheritance. The town also appears in Joshua's boundary lists. The exact location remains uncertain, though it lay somewhere in Benjamin's territory.
