This word has two related uses: ritual tassels on garment corners and a lock of hair on the forehead. Numbers 15:38-39 three times commands Israel to make tassels (fringes) on the corners of their garments as a reminder of God's commandments. These became the tzitzit still worn by observant Jews. Ezekiel 8:3 uses the word for a lock of hair on the prophet's forehead by which he was lifted in a vision. Both uses involve something that hangs or projects prominently.
