outcry, cry of distress or grief
A feminine noun denoting a loud outcry, usually in contexts of distress, grief, or calamity. Psalm 144:14 uses it in a negative context ('no outcry' as a sign of peace). Isaiah 24:11 describes an outcry in the streets over the lack of wine amid judgment. Jeremiah employs the word twice: the outcry of Judah's mourning (14:2) and the cry that will fill the land when Egypt is defeated (46:12). The word conveys vocal expression of anguish or alarm.
