Zibiah was a woman from Beersheba who became the mother of Jehoash (also called Joash), the boy-king rescued from Athaliah's massacre of the royal family. Her name, meaning 'gazelle,' follows a pattern of feminine names drawn from graceful animals. Both Kings and Chronicles record her name when introducing her son's reign, following the common biblical practice of identifying a king's mother. Though we know little else about her, Zibiah's son would restore temple worship and repair God's house.
